Your Foundation, Your Brotherhood, Your Future

Boulder, Colorado

Addiction. Mental Health. Woundedness. Trauma.

Most of us don’t arrive here hopeful or happy. We feel small and walking through these doors is tough. We can’t figure out how we got here. Our lives and stories are different. The wounds are different. Circumstances are different. The substances we use to medicate are different. Our struggles with mental wellness are different. Our diagnosis may be different. Our pain isn’t. Pain binds us together. Our struggle binds us. Our desire to wake up feeling different binds us… This is the battle most of us are in and we feel alone, it’s this battle that brings us together at Choice House.

There’s been months or years of chaos and confusion. Our family and friends find themselves behind the walls we’ve built. And we can’t seem to find a way to connect with those people we love. The schools we attend, the people employing us. Nobody knows what we need, and we don’t know either.  We try to do it ourselves- school, work, relationships and we just can’t seem to get where we want to go. Everything feels just out of our grasp and we’re too afraid to ask for help. Most of the time, we don’t know how to ask for that help we need. We feel broken. We feel inherently flawed.

We’ve no clue what to do with our feelings. We don’t even know how to just feel them, and be with that discomfort of unpleasant ones. We shrink, we fight, we avoid, we medicate, we go off the handle. We feel frozen. We abandon ourselves. We abandon people we love. Our dreams. over and over. Some of us have experienced external success, but our internal world that feels out of control.  Some of us wear our wounds and scars for everyone around us to see. This part actually doesn’t matter that much, we both need the same medicine.

Not just another "Rehab"

Clinically sophisticated treatment delivered inside a relational environment for men

At Choice House we learn how to work therapeutically inside our discomfort. We stay in the painful feelings and work with them in a clinical container. We do it together, in the herd. We start to face our patterns. We talk about what’s real. We integrate wounds. We start to feel better. We begin the path of becoming grounded men. We do the work. We rebuild. We do it alongside other men. We become each other’s tribe.
We built Choice House to address and nurture the whole man. It’s not just about putting down substances. It’s about developing our self-worth and showing up in our highest self. We do this through
  • experiential clinical work
  • the psychodrama trauma model
  • adventure therapy
  • psychiatric integration
  • full medical oversight
  • attachment work
  • nervous system regulation
  • family reunification through family systems work
  • relational case management and coaching
  • addressing relapse patterns
  • real community and friendships

The Bison and his Herd

The North American Bison, the talisman of Choice House. They roamed the plains and hills of Boulder, Colorado. They stood where we now stand. Bison protect one another, live in community and protect their young. They don’t abandon members of their herd who are injured or struggling.  Bison behave differently than most animals. When a storm rolls across the plains, they don’t run away from it. They turn and move straight through it. Choice House is built on the same idea. Our men face their storm with the support of a tribe that refuses to let them disappear into isolation again.

What is Brotherhood?
  • honesty when it’s uncomfortable
  • accountability when it’s needed
  • support when things get hard
  • men growing together, not alone

Born in the herd - Wounded in the herd - Heal in the herd

The Treatment Continuum

Phase One – 90 Day Residential Program

Our residential program is about giving our men the time and space they need to begin a new chapter. This is a marathon, it ain’t a sprint. These patterns that we develop compound over time, and it takes time to unravel them. This is about safety, structure, clinical depth and community. In residential treatment our men will…..

  • receive addiction and trauma treatment through multiple modalities from experienced clinicians who hold masters degrees and often have immense personal experience in recovery as well.
  • experience shared adventure and challenge in our outdoor program. This includes weekly excursions and overnight trips. Biking, hiking, golf, fishing, climbing etc. We want you to reconnect to purpose, passion and healthy dopamine hits.
  • receive support around their family system and how to move forward in a new way that allows both them and their families to heal. Nobody feels like a hostage anymore. We learn resilience and emotional regulation.
  • receive psychiatric and medical care from an experienced medical team whose goal is to ensure underlying mental health and medical issues are addressed appropriately. Our medical team specializes in co-occurring disorders and helping our clients find a pathway to stability.
  • receive support from our coaches, case manager and the entire treatment team, many of which are alumni of Choice House. We believe in addressing as many issues and obstacles while our men are in treatment. This helps create an environment for success after treatment.

Phase Two- Structured Sober living

Intensive Outpatient + Comprehensive Recovery Living

After residential treatment, men transition into our Intensive Outpatient Program combined with structured sober living. Clients begin engaging with the real world while continuing to receive strong therapeutic and community support.

During this phase men focus on:

  • strengthening recovery habits
  • practicing emotional regulation in daily life
  • repairing relationships
    building healthy routines
  • increasing personal responsibility

The clinical progress and community remain strong while independence begins to grow.

Phase Three- Independent Living

Comprehensive Recovery Living

As men stabilize, they move into a phase of greater independence.

Clients continue to work, pursue education, and continue building their lives while remaining connected to the Choice House community.

The focus becomes long-term identity development and life integration.

Men begin stepping into roles of responsibility and leadership both within the tribe and in their own lives.

Trauma Work

Many men struggling with addiction are carrying unresolved trauma. Childhood experiences, loss, violence, neglect, and emotional abandonment. Trauma shapes how men regulate emotion, form relationships, and see themselves. At Choice House, we help men understand their story, process what happened to them, and develop new ways of living that aren’t driven by pain and a broken little boy who’s often just afraid.

Addiction Work

Treatment Centers for Eating Disorders

Substance use, compulsive behavior, and escape patterns often develop as ways to cope with deeper struggles. Our program addresses both the behavior and the root causes beneath it.Men develop the tools to live without substances while building a life that is actually worth staying sober for.

Men's Work

recovery home near me

Many men were never taught how to deal with emotion, responsibility, or purpose. They were taught to perform strength rather than develop it. Choice House helps men confront the deeper questions of identity:

  • Who am I really?
  • What kind of man do I want to become?
  • What responsibility do I have to others?

This work is about maturity, integrity, and purpose.
